A Memo

Updated: Jan 21

As requested, I have reviewed all documentation regarding the minor child Madilyn Ulara Gehorsam D’Jorasco. As others have found, there is nothing in our examinations of the child to indicate she is connected to the Curse of the Waters, nor does she show signs of being a sorcerer. However, upon cross-referencing intelligence reports against each examination's transcripts, I found evidence to support that the child is, at least, magically inclined. I have a strong suspicion the parents are concealing, or willfully ignoring, magical activity by the daughter.

 Spring Exam, Age 4

“Momma said the lady died from an aneurysm, but my minders were able to revive her. I guess being told you have a flat ass can make some adults angry. ” -MD. Intelligence reports from this time indicate an incident at an upscale bookstore. Details are limited, and it is suspected magical means were used to prevent the story from leaking.

Summer Exam, Age 5

The standard examination, and all exams moving forward, were hampered by a mithril chain shirt the child was wearing. When asked for it to be removed we were informed it could not be removed without magic. After much debate, the college agreed to eat the cost of disenchantment and re-enchantment of the shirt for full exams. We we asked why such a shirt was necessary, and the father stated it was for the child’s security, and additional discussion was not recorded.

Discussions with the child during her visits to our library and the books borrowed by the child indicate she was researching the Goodberry spell.

It should be noted that the child was moved to her father’s care. Additional intelligence suggests the father may have pursued a formal custody reassignment

Winter Exam, Age 6

The child was gifted an honorary Library Access Card. As a result, the child spent less time in our libraries and more time with the Librarians.

Summer Exam, Age 6

The child was living with her mother in the Gate Fort. They moved in shortly after a conflict at the Ranger’s Headquarters. Details are unreliable given the animosity between the two factions. What is consistent is the child was hiding something in her room at the Ranger’s Headquarters. The mother insisted on searching the room herself, triggering a standoff. Something was found, and the child was moved back to her mother’s care.

Should exams indicate signs of active magical ability, I recommended the college attempt to take custody of the child. A full scholarship may not be enough to entice the parents to surrender her. We should also prepare for the child to die prematurely. If so, steps should be taken to recover the remains for additional examination and utilization. The Dean of Necromancy may object to our involvement due to their close relationship with the mother.
